BEIJING (Reuters) – Chinese electric automobile (EV) maker BYD Co Ltd (002594.SZ), (1211.HK) will source EV batteries to U.S. automaker Ford Motor Co (F.N), a document on the web site of the Ministry of Field and Information Engineering showed on Monday.
Ford’s China undertaking with Changan Automobile (000625.SZ) is in search of federal government approval to establish a plug-in hybrid model geared up with BYD’s batteries, according to the document.
This marks BYD’s initial-regarded battery offer offer with a big international automaker.
Shenzhen-based mostly BYD, which is backed by U.S. investor Warren Buffett, stated it would offer EV parts like batteries and electric power administration devices.
The Dearborn, Michigan-centered automaker explained previous year it prepared to launch far more than 30 new or drastically redesigned types in China by the finish of 2021, of which more than a 3rd will be electric powered automobiles.
Ford and BYD did not immediately respond to requests for remark.
